A Green Ride: Victor Nwohedi has decided to use an electric bike instead of public transportation
I have been working for Vivid Community Care as a Day Domiciliary Care assistant for nearly a year. I initially relied on public transport to come to work. This could take me about an hour, and it cost £16 daily.
This was very challenging as I will have to make up for the late transportation by arriving very early in case there is a cancellation. I also have to find alternative solutions during transport strikes, and it is very challenging. I provide care support to different clients during the day and relying on public transport is not always the easiest thing to do.
During the Covid period, I have to keep myself safe as I have a duty of care towards the service users and using public transport did not make it safer.
Investing in an electric bike is the best decision I have made not only because I can arrive to work on time and travel between clients easily, but I am helping to protect the environment and my social values. Cycling also makes me feel better as I am exercising. I am very happy to be part of those who help protect our environment. I can now attend emergency shifts with ease and it only takes me twenty minutes to arrive at work.
